Pinehurst Golf Course first opened for play in 1966. The course was designed by Tom Portman and Mike Portman.
Pinehurst Golf Course is a rustic nine-holer that plays to a 9-hole par of 36 and a maximum 9-hole distance of 3,130 yards. The course is flat to rolling and straightforward. The bent-grass greens run true and not too fast. As you get a few holes in, you feel like you've stepped out of time. Pinehurst GC is bordered on one side by vineyards; along the other side locomotives rumble and whistle by every 20 minutes or so. The course is often lightly played, promoting a relaxed, easygoing round.
Notworthy holes include #3, a par four that requires a drive through a chute of trees, then doglegs left; and #6, a 530-yarder along the vineyards and finally up to an elevated green.

It's the best 9 hole course around. The conditions of the course are top notch. You won't find anything else in that good of shape in that price range.
